IHG Hotels & Resorts: How We Helped Save £445,052
- 18 systems across 14 properties
- 57.5% average fan energy reduction
- £445,052 total savings to date
- 847 tonnes of CO₂ saved
- 3.4 million kWh saved across the estate
IHG Hotels & Resorts is one of the world's largest hotel groups, operating properties across multiple brands and locations including InterContinental, Kimpton, Voco, and Holiday Inn. Quintex has installed Cheetah Demand Controlled Kitchen Ventilation across 18 systems in 14 properties across the UK and internationally.

The Challenge
Hotel kitchens don't operate at peak demand all day. There are quieter periods between breakfast, lunch, dinner, and late service, but extraction systems across the IHG estate were running at or near full speed throughout, consuming the same energy during quiet prep as during full service. With energy costs rising and sustainability targets tightening, the impact of over-ventilation across the multi-property estate had become a high and growing operational cost.
The Solution
Cheetah was installed across 18 systems in 14 IHG properties, integrating with existing kitchen ventilation infrastructure without requiring system replacement.
Demand-based kitchen ventilation is also included within IHG Brand Standards, reflecting its role in the group’s wider approach to reducing energy consumption across its hotel estate. IHG’s Europe Energy HUB identifies demand-based kitchen ventilation as an energy-saving measure, automatically matching ventilation flow rates to the level of cooking taking place beneath each canopy.
Each installation was configured to the specific operational profile of the kitchen, responding to actual cooking activity in real time and changing fan speeds continuously to match demand.
The system now increases extraction automatically when demand rises and reduces fan output during quieter periods. This maintains full safety and compliance at all times while eliminating unnecessary energy consumption.
The Results
Across the full IHG estate, Cheetah has delivered a total of £445,052 in verified financial savings to date (September 2026), with an annual saving of 705,916 kWh and 847 tonnes of CO₂ removed from the group's operational carbon footprint.
The average fan energy reduction across all 18 systems is 57.5%, with individual sites achieving savings as high as 89.15% - at Voco Grand Central Glasgow.
The InterContinental Edinburgh The George alone has saved £87,193 to date. The two Manchester Oxford Street systems, installed more recently, are already saving a combined £12,897 annually.
And don’t just take our word for it…
Stuart Cutts, Director of Facilities at IHG Voco Oxford Spires Hotel, said, ‘What we like most about Cheetah is that you don’t have to think about it. It’s fully automated, so the ventilation looks after itself and delivers energy savings without us having to do anything. The reduction in noise from the fan units has also been a real benefit for our guests. Quintex have provided a great service throughout, and we’d definitely recommend them.’
Ian Mann, Director of Decarbonisation Delivery EMEAA, said, “Cheetah has been a useful technology for us at IHG. We’ve seen a positive impact across our Managed hotels, helping teams find ways to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. We’re also seeing good results across our franchised properties, which gives us confidence that the technology can be rolled out more widely and support our efforts to reduce emissions.
Key Benefits
The IHG case study demonstrates what demand-responsive ventilation delivers at scale - consistent, verifiable savings across different property types, brands, and locations, without compromising kitchen performance or compliance.
All results are drawn from live Cheetah monitoring data across the full reporting period.
