Where Can Ecofix Be Applied?

Ecofix offers zonal capability - coverage where it's needed most. Many customers specify exactly where they need Ecofix installed based on their system challenges.

Canopy and Duct

Many clients install Ecofix to the canopy using spray bars. This removes and prevents contamination buildup. Kitchen staff remove waste product as part of daily cleaning. Ductwork houses additional spray nozzles from 1 to 3 metres to reduce contamination where grease load is highest.

Risers (Internal and External)

Kitchen extract systems often feature internal and external risers. Clients must keep these areas compliant, but risers present the biggest ventilation hygiene challenges—difficult access, large dimensions, high costs.

Quintex installs Ecofix to risers following a full clean from our hygiene team. Dosing these sections allows less frequent cleaning. Some systems use Ecofix for canopy and duct, but larger systems may use the entire Ecofix capability for the riser only due to size and dimension.

Grease Management (Larger Kitchen Extract Systems)

Ecofix supports cleaning in both small and large kitchen extract systems. It's installed in sections where cleaning can be managed visit to visit.

TR19 Guidance recommends monitoring manual cleaning over 7 sections:

  1. Canopy

  2. 1 metre from canopy

  3. 3 metres from canopy

  4. Ductwork midway

  5. Ductwork upstream of fan

  6. Fan unit

  7. Ductwork downstream of fan

Cleaning is triggered by grease thickness level (GTL) measurements in microns (μm). The recommended GTL trigger is 200μm. Measurements below 200μm don't require cleaning if frequency is maintained. Some clients extend this to 250μm under their requirements.

Ecofix dosing can be installed to some or all sections to reduce contamination and cleaning requirements. This allows less frequent cleaning and reduced labour - especially valuable in larger systems where cleaning is more costly. For smaller systems, cleaning frequency extends further to reduce costs.

Targeted Cleaning

Ecofix can be used for specific applications:

  • Risers only – Focused dosing for vertical sections

  • Canopy and spigot only – Targeted where grease load is highest

  • Fan units (impellers) – Increases longevity through manual cleaning plus Ecofix. Keeps impellers clean and balanced

  • Specific duct sections – Problem areas requiring focused attention

Remediation

Many kitchen extract systems have access issues for cleaning. Normally, access doors are installed to facilitate cleaning, but this isn't always possible due to:

  • Building fabric obstacles

  • Encased ductwork

  • Non-reachable areas

  • Ductwork in voids

  • Small, inaccessible ductwork

Solutions like dismantling ductwork, changing building fabric, or replacing ductwork systems are very expensive and often overlooked.

Ecofix actively remediates ductwork sections. Waste collects at system resistance points—ductwork bends, transitions, and at source. Ecofix doses into these areas, breaking down historical contamination and preventing additional buildup. In most cases, we've returned heavily contaminated ductwork to compliance and reduced cleaning areas visit to visit.

Case Studies

Ecofix has helped businesses across multiple industries with kitchen grease management:

  • Mitchell & Butlers PLC – High Density Grease Contamination

  • Brasserie Bar Co. – Brasserie Blanc Milton Keynes

  • Wagamama's Group Ltd – Medium/High Density Contamination
