Cheetah - Quick Service Restaurants Case Studies

Quintex has worked with quick service restaurants including KFC, Nando's, Wagamama, Ikea and Deliveroo. This case study explores two different scales of operations to demonstrate how Cheetah delivers energy savings across varied fan sizes and site configurations.

KFC Birmingham: Two Sites

Key Results (Combined Two Sites):

- 23,875 kWh saved annually
- 5 tonnes CO₂ saved per year
- £6,000 annual savings
- 58% fan energy reduction
- 17-month payback

Two 3kW fans running at full speed consumed 40,500 kWh annually. At 25p per kWh, this cost £10,000 per year just to run fans 15 hours daily. The sites also produced 5 tonnes of CO₂ annually. This wasn't financially sustainable and had significant environmental impact.

Cheetah was installed in the kitchen ventilation systems. Energy consumption dropped to 16,800 kWh - saving 23,700 kWh and nearly £6,000 per year.

Nando's: Five Sites

Key Results (Combined Five Sites):

- 212,170 kWh saved annually
- 48 tonnes CO₂ saved per year
- £53,000 annual savings
- 47% fan energy reduction
- 11-month payback

Across five sites, Nando's consumed 448,000 kWh annually. At 25p per kWh, this cost £112,000 per year just to run kitchen fans. Their 7kW extract fans are significantly larger than KFC's.

After installing Cheetah, fan consumption dropped to 235,000 kWh - saving 212,000 kWh each year. Nearly cutting fan energy usage in half. Annual savings: £53,000 and 48 tonnes of CO₂.

The Solution

Cheetah demand-controlled kitchen ventilation was installed across sites. The system uses network sensors in kitchen ductwork and canopies that monitor cookline activity. Cheetah adjusts fan speeds based on demand - slowing to as low as 40% during quiet periods, which uses only 6.4% of required power. Full speed during busy service. Reduced speeds during lulls.

These examples demonstrate how Cheetah delivers consistent savings across different restaurant brands and fan sizes. Whether 3kW fans at two KFC sites or 7kW fans across five Nando's locations, the system cuts energy consumption by approximately 50% with payback periods under 18 months. Savings continue year after year across entire estates.
