Cheetah - Pubs Case Studies

Key Results (Average per Pub):
- 18,000 kWh saved annually
- 4,000 kg (4 tonnes) CO₂ saved per year
- £4,500 annual savings
- 57% reduction in fan energy consumption

Estate-Wide Results:
- Young's: 686,500 kWh saved across 29 pubs (£171,600 annually)
- Fuller, Smith & Turner: 101,200 kWh saved across 9 pubs (£25,300 annually)

Rising energy costs and increasing sustainability pressures have made it challenging for pubs to maintain profitability without passing costs onto customers. With ambitious Net Zero targets in place, pub operators needed to take action quickly and implement proven energy-saving technology. Rather than reacting to rising costs, operators like Young's and Fuller's proactively sought smarter, more sustainable solutions to drive long-term efficiency.

The Challenge

Traditional kitchen ventilation systems run at full power regardless of cooking activity, wasting energy and driving up overheads. For pub operators managing multiple sites, these unnecessary costs multiply across their estates. Pubs needed a solution that cut energy use while maintaining kitchen performance and customer comfort - without requiring constant manual intervention or impacting service quality.

The Solution

Cheetah demand-controlled ventilation was installed across pub estates, starting with trial sites to prove savings before wider rollout. The system detects cooking activity and adjusts fan speeds automatically -high speeds during busy service, reduced speeds during quieter periods, minimum speeds when no cooking occurs. This intelligent approach matches ventilation to actual demand rather than running constantly at full power, cutting unnecessary energy use.

The Results

Average results per pub: 18,000 kWh saved annually, 4 tonnes of CO₂ reduced, and £4,500 in cost savings. The 57% reduction in fan energy consumption helps keep operational costs down, and the price of a pint stable for customers.

Estate-wide impact has been substantial. Young's saved 686,500 kWh across 29 pubs, equating to £171,600 annually. Fuller, Smith & Turner saved 101,200 kWh across 9 pubs, delivering £25,300 in yearly savings. Following these results, installations have expanded to 37 Young's pubs and 12 Fuller's locations across the UK.

Ongoing Partnership

We work with major pub brands including Wetherspoons, Miller & Carter, and more. By embracing energy-saving technology, pub operators reduce costs while making meaningful progress toward sustainability commitments - proving that smart investments today drive a greener, more profitable future.
