Center Parcs: Multi-Site Energy Reduction Across UK Estate
- 1,149,717 kWh saved annually
- 358 tonnes carbon saved per year
- 65% energy consumption reduction
- £63,000 annual savings
- 2.00-year payback period
Center Parcs UK has created tranquil forest villages where families can escape everyday life and reconnect with nature since 1987. This close link with the natural environment means they've always been committed to protecting their surroundings - minimising environmental impact through water conservation, tackling climate change, and reducing waste. Center Parcs approached Quintex to reduce energy consumption across their UK estate as part of this commitment.

The Challenge
Center Parcs operates 23 restaurants across four UK sites, all built deep within forests on acres of unspoiled woodland. Kitchen ventilation systems ran constantly at high speeds to maintain safe working conditions, but this consumed significant energy and increased equipment wear. The company needed a solution that delivered measurable savings with a strong payback period while maintaining comfortable and safe kitchen environments.
The Solution
Center Parcs started with a trial installation at the Sports Café Kitchen in Sherwood Forest to prove effectiveness before estate-wide rollout. Cheetah was then installed across all 23 restaurants. The system uses intelligent controls and sensors to detect cooking activity, then varies extract and supply fan speeds accordingly. Fans run at the speed needed to remove heat and contaminants - maximum speed only when necessary - while maintaining safe working conditions. Reducing fan speeds also reduces motor load, extending equipment life and reducing maintenance requirements.
The Results
The trial at Sherwood Forest delivered metered savings exceeding £3,511 annually with under 2-year payback. Following this success, Cheetah was rolled out across all four UK sites. Estate-wide annual savings: 1,149,717 kWh, 358 tonnes of carbon, and £63,000 in costs. The 65% energy reduction achieved a 2-year payback period across all installations. Additional benefits include extended equipment lifespan and reduced maintenance costs from lower motor loads.
Key Benefits
Center Parcs' multi-site rollout demonstrates how demand-controlled ventilation delivers consistent performance at scale. By starting with a single trial kitchen to prove savings, then rolling out across their entire estate, Center Parcs achieved substantial energy and carbon reductions while maintaining their commitment to environmental protection. The company is not only helping families get back to nature but doing their part to save nature for the future.
